I hit 50,633 today, four days early.

Now the rewriting begins, along with adding and subtracting and making the words flow in a more logical sequence.

But it feels good to have passed the 50,000 word mark.

Synopsis ~ women Unbound

I'm exploring the thinking of the new generation of women who are just getting interested in feminism, along with those who aren't quite sure what they think on that subject. The experiences of women today are very different from what was happening to those of us who were part of the women's liberation movement in the 1970s or those of the first wave of feminism in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The suffragettes wanted the vote; women's libbers faced job challenges, like being asked at EVERY job interview, "Do you type?" and being told, for jobs we were qualified to do, "We don't hire women to do that." In this book I am taking a look at the current state of feminism.

I want to explore the thinking of the new generation of women who are just getting interested in feminism, along with those who aren't quite sure what they think on that subject. We faced the challenge of being asked at EVERY job interview, 'Do you type?' For many jobs women were qualified to do, we were told, 'We don't hire women to do that.'

I've been a book blogger for almost three years now. It's opened up a whole new world for me. Most of the book bloggers I know about are women, though there are several men among them. It would be interesting to check out the reasons more women than men become book bloggers, but that's not where I'm going with this book I've decided to write. What intrigues me is the community building going on among these women. And one of the biggest proponents of community among book bloggers was Dewey, who named her blog "The Hidden Side of a Leaf."

Calvin, on writing nonfiction

Last year Snoopy, who wrote a novel, was my writing hero. This year I'm writing nonfiction, so maybe I should listen to Calvin, especially since I'm writing about something akin to "transrelational gender modes." Oh, yeah, I promised more information about my subject, didn't I? Okay, I'll get back to you on that ASAP.

I'm a little late starting

I've been writing. I just haven't been tallying it up as a NaNoWriMo month because I'm doing nonfiction this year. But why not count it? I'm writing, aren't I? I really hope to get this book published because I have faith in it and believe it's the right thing at the right time. So here goes nothing as I start counting my output as NaNo-worthy.

By the way, the irony of the photo across the top of this blog doesn't escape me. A man -- well, a young man with imagination -- when I'm writing a book about feminism and women's studies. Maybe this young woman who is writing while sitting at the base of a tree will properly ground this work I'm undertaking. As new posts appear, each above the former, she will be at the foundation of this blog. It's as though everything springs from her.
